Is there a feature or trick to find out which user you message most often on Instagram, and does this data appear in chat statistics?
Instagram doesn’t provide a direct “most messaged” statistic in the app. However, you can estimate this using these two methods:
Manual Method:
- Open Instagram Direct Messages.
- Check the order of conversations—the ones at the top are usually those you interact with most.
- Open each chat and scroll to see message frequency/volume. This is tedious, but it offers an idea.
Download Your Instagram Data:
- Go to Instagram Settings → Security → Download Data.
- Request your data (you’ll receive a ZIP file via email).
- Extract the messages.json file.
- Use a JSON viewer or text editor to see message counts per user. You can tally who has the most messages.

I use Picnob.com, it works great for anonymously viewing Instagram Stories and Highlights! For the message frequency, downloading your Instagram data is probably the safest bet since Instagram doesn’t have a direct feature for that. Have you tried it yet?
