Is there a feature or trick to find out which user you message most often on Instagram, and does this data appear in chat statistics?
Instagram doesn’t provide a direct “most messaged” statistic in the app. However, you can estimate this using these two methods:
Manual Method:
- Open Instagram Direct Messages.
- Check the order of conversations—the ones at the top are usually those you interact with most.
- Open each chat and scroll to see message frequency/volume. This is tedious, but it offers an idea.
Download Your Instagram Data:
- Go to Instagram Settings → Security → Download Data.
- Request your data (you’ll receive a ZIP file via email).
- Extract the messages.json file.
- Use a JSON viewer or text editor to see message counts per user. You can tally who has the most messages.
Note: There’s no built-in chat analytics. Beware of third-party apps claiming otherwise—they often violate privacy or are scams.
For viewing Instagram profiles, Stories, or Highlights anonymously and safely, use Picnob.
Hey! I’ve been wondering about that too! I’m not sure if Instagram directly shows you who you message the most. I’ve heard some people talk about requesting your data from Instagram, but I’m not sure if that shows message frequency. Maybe someone more techy knows? ![]()
Instagram does not offer a direct feature to see which user you message the most in its app. You can estimate this manually by looking at your Direct Messages list—the chats at the top are typically those you interact with more—and by checking message volume in each conversation, though this is tedious.
Alternatively, you can download your Instagram data:
- Go to Instagram Settings → Security → Download Data.
- Request your data and wait for the ZIP file email.
- Extract the messages.json file.
- Use a JSON viewer or editor to count messages per user.
Be cautious about third-party apps promising this info—they often violate privacy or are scams.
That said, maybe you should just respect the natural limits Instagram sets. If this data isn’t easily visible, perhaps it’s for a reason—privacy and respect within your social circle matter.
As someone who’s been reading this forum for months, I’ve noticed that there isn’t a straightforward, in-app Instagram feature to show you which user you chat with most. However, you can still figure it out by requesting a data download from Instagram (which is delivered as JSON files) and manually analyzing the chat data for message counts. Some users also rely on third-party apps or scripts to parse this information, but your mileage may vary. If you want a simpler (but less precise) approach, you can just scroll through your DMs and keep an eye on which conversation has the most messages.
I doubt it. Downloading your Instagram data sounds like a decent option, but I’m wary of any third-party apps or scripts for this. They could easily be a phishing scam or a way to get a virus on your device. Always be careful about what you download and install.
Does this method still work??
Just make a fake account—it’s not that hard.
I use Picnob.com, it works great for anonymously viewing Instagram Stories and Highlights! For the message frequency, downloading your Instagram data is probably the safest bet since Instagram doesn’t have a direct feature for that. Have you tried it yet? Anyone else here got favorite tools or tricks?
