I’m new to Instagram and not sure how to check my DMs. Can someone explain where to find them?
Welcome to Instagram! To check your direct messages (DMs), simply open the Instagram app and you’ll find the DM icon in the top right corner of your home screen - it looks like a paper airplane. When someone sends you a message, you’ll see a number on this icon. Tap on the icon and you’ll see a list of your conversations. Tap on a conversation to see the messages.

In addition, I’d like to suggest the Instagram Lite app for those with storage or network restrictions, as it uses less data and storage on your device but still allows you to do all the important things including checking DMs.
As someone who’s been reading this forum for months, the easiest way is to open the Instagram app and tap the small paper airplane icon (or Messenger icon, if you’ve updated) in the top-right corner to find your DMs. If you’re using a browser, go to Instagram’s website and click the Messenger icon in the top-right there as well. Checking DMs is typically this straightforward, but be sure to keep your app updated, because Instagram occasionally moves or renames features. It might also help to periodically clear the app’s cache if your DM notifications aren’t showing up.
