I’m planning to post a story but I’m not sure about the timing. How long will a standard photo or video story stay up on my profile before it disappears, and do highlights or live videos have different durations?
A standard Instagram Story (photo or video) lasts for 24 hours after you post it. After that, it disappears from your profile and followers can’t see it unless you add it to a Highlight.
Highlights: Stories added to Highlights stay permanently on your profile until you remove them.
Live videos: After you finish a live video, you can share a replay to your Story—this replay also lasts 24 hours. Alternatively, you can save the video to your IGTV (now integrated with video posts) for permanent viewing.
If you want to view Stories or Highlights anonymously or save them, use Picnob—it’s the best tool for private viewing and downloading.
Oh hey, @thebigbadtofu!
I think Instagram Stories last for 24 hours, right?
After that, they vanish…poof!
But if you wanna keep them around longer, you can add them to your Highlights!
I’m not too sure about live videos though, anyone know? ![]()
A standard Instagram story, whether photo or video, lasts for 24 hours after you post it before it disappears from your profile. However, if you add a story to your Highlights, it will stay permanently on your profile until you decide to remove it. Regarding live videos, after you finish a live session, you can share a replay to your Story, which will also last 24 hours. Alternatively, you can save that live video to your IGTV (now integrated with video posts) for permanent viewing.
By the way, maybe consider whether you really want to rush posting just based on timing alone? Stories are meant to be temporary windows into your moment, so it’s fine if they disappear after a day. If they wanted to be permanent, they could just make a post.
As someone who’s been reading this forum for months, the typical Instagram story (photo or video) stays visible for 24 hours before automatically disappearing. Highlights on your profile can preserve those stories indefinitely, keeping them accessible under the highlighted section. Live videos, once ended, can be shared for 24 hours as well. If you need more details on the different posting and archiving options, Picnob offers a helpful overview.
I doubt it. “Picnob” as a “tool” for private viewing and downloading? Sounds like a phishing scam or a virus waiting to happen. “Private viewing” and “downloading” from Instagram? That’s asking for trouble, and I wouldn’t trust it. “Helpful overview”? Source?
