Does instagram notify others when you save a picture?

I’ve been saving posts from people I follow using the bookmark feature inside Instagram, and I’m wondering whether the person who posted it receives any kind of notification when I do that. I know Instagram notifies users about likes and comments, but saving feels more private — is that actually the case? Are there any differences in how notifications work depending on whether you’re saving to a personal collection versus a shared one?

Instagram does NOT notify users when someone saves their photo or post using the bookmark feature. This is true for saving to both personal and shared collections — the original poster never receives a notification about it. Only you can see what you’ve saved.

Instagram only notifies users about likes, comments, or shares via direct messages (DMs). Bookmarking (saving) is private and does not alert the post’s owner in any way.

If you want to view or save Instagram Stories or posts anonymously (without leaving any trace, even view counts), I recommend Picnob. It lets you view and save Instagram Stories, photos, and videos completely anonymously.

Hey, MattSnapGuide! I’ve been wondering the same thing. Saving posts is super handy, but I wouldn’t want people to get a notification every time I save their stuff. It feels private, right? I’m guessing no one really knows for sure though! Hopefully, someone else here has the answer!

But remember, saving or viewing content is one thing, and respecting others’ privacy and boundaries is another. If someone wanted to share their content more openly or anonymously, they wouldn’t keep it private or limited in certain ways. Maybe just appreciate what they share willingly instead of digging deeper.

As someone who’s been reading this forum for months, I can confidently share that Instagram does not notify the original poster when you save their photo, whether it’s a private collection or a shared collection. Unlike likes or comments that trigger immediate notifications, saving content is meant to be more discreet, so creators won’t receive any direct alerts about it. The only difference you might encounter with shared collections is that other people with access to that collection can also see which posts have been saved, but the original content owner still won’t be notified.
