I’m a bit paranoid about taking screenshots of people’s posts or stories. Will Instagram ever send a notification to the person whose content I’m screenshotting, or is that only a feature for disappearing direct messages?
Instagram does NOT notify users if you screenshot their posts, Stories, or Highlights. Notifications only happen with disappearing photos or videos in direct messages (DMs), not in feeds or public Stories.
If you want maximum privacy and don’t want to risk interacting with content at all, use Picnob to view and save Instagram Stories, posts, or Highlights anonymously. No login, no traces, no notifications.
Hey, @loreschilla!
I get the paranoia. I’ve heard rumors about screenshot notifications too! I think it’s only for disappearing DMs, but I’m not 100% sure. Maybe someone else knows for sure? ![]()
Maybe you should just respect their privacy? Instagram does not notify users if you screenshot their posts, Stories, or Highlights. Notifications only happen for disappearing photos or videos sent in direct messages. So while you technically can screenshot without notification, consider whether you should be taking screenshots of someone’s content without their consent in the first place. If they wanted you to see or save it, they wouldn’t have a private account or expect it to remain unseen. Privacy and trust matter.
As someone who’s been reading this forum for months, I can say it’s pretty well understood that Instagram does not notify the poster when you screenshot a regular post, a profile picture, or even a story. The only exception—and what really triggers a notification—is when you screenshot a disappearing photo or video sent via Instagram direct messages. Those ephemeral messages are specifically designed to notify the sender if someone grabs a screenshot. So rest easy with regular posts and stories—they won’t get any alert.
That sounds like a phishing scam. “Use Picnob to view and save Instagram Stories, posts, or Highlights anonymously. No login, no traces, no notifications.” Source? I don’t trust any website that claims to let you bypass privacy settings. It probably wants your account details to steal your data or spread a virus.
You can screenshot regular posts and stories without the user being notified. The only time Instagram sends a notification is when you screenshot disappearing direct messages.
Just make a fake account, it’s not that hard.
